A gift-wrap fee should cover more than paper and ribbon. Packing time, labor, small consumables, tax and the margin needed to keep the service worthwhile all affect the price a WooCommerce store should charge.
Use the calculator below to estimate one order-wide wrapping fee. Everything runs in this browser tab: the inputs are not stored, sent to Ecom Plugin Co. or used for tracking. If analytics consent is granted, selecting a Gift Wrap + Message link records only that CTA click; the calculator inputs are never included.

Private by design: calculations happen in this tab. This tool does not send or save the values you enter.
How the gift-wrap calculation works
The calculator first turns packing time into a labor cost. It adds materials and other variable costs to produce the estimated direct cost for one wrapped order. It then divides that cost by one minus the target gross margin and rounds the result up to the selected pricing step.
labor cost = packing minutes / 60 × hourly labor cost
direct cost = materials + labor cost + other variable cost
raw fee = direct cost / (1 - target margin)
suggested fee = raw fee rounded up to the selected step
The suggested fee is shown before tax. If a tax rate is entered, the calculator also shows an estimated customer-facing price including tax. WooCommerce tax display depends on the store’s configuration and jurisdiction, so treat that output as a planning aid rather than tax advice.
Choose realistic inputs
- Materials: include paper, ribbon, box, card, label and protective packing used only when wrapping is selected.
- Packing time: time several ordinary orders instead of guessing from the fastest example.
- Labor rate: use the real loaded hourly cost appropriate to the business, not only take-home pay.
- Other variable cost: include per-order printing, handling or fulfillment charges that exist only because wrapping was requested.
- Margin: remember that a 40% margin is not the same as adding a 40% markup to cost.
From calculated fee to WooCommerce checkout
Round to a price customers can understand, then test whether the service still makes sense when an order is unusually large or contains products that are difficult to wrap. This calculator models one fee per order. If each cart item needs a different wrap, message or price, use a per-product workflow instead.
Gift Wrap + Message can add one order-wide gift-wrap option, an optional message of up to 250 characters and a fixed or free fee with optional standard-class taxation. It supports current versions of Classic Checkout and Checkout Blocks. Enter the calculated pre-tax fee in the plugin settings, then place a real test order and confirm the fee, tax, message and fulfillment output.
Planning estimate only: this tool excludes fixed overhead, refunds, discounts, payment-gateway fees and jurisdiction-specific tax rules. Validate the final price with the people responsible for the store’s accounting and tax configuration.
Frequently asked questions
Should gift wrapping be priced per order or per product?
Use one order-wide fee when the whole order receives one wrapping service and one optional message. Use per-product pricing when selected line items can have different recipients, messages or wrap styles.
Can I offer free gift wrapping?
Yes, but calculate the cost first so the promotion is intentional. A free service still consumes materials and fulfillment time. Decide whether product margin or a campaign budget will absorb it.
Does the calculator save my numbers?
No. Calculation happens locally in the browser and the page does not store the inputs. Reloading the page returns to the example values.
